Vancouver Chiropractor: Postural improvement

As a Chiropractor, I have practiced the majority of the time in Vancouver. I started out working in Toronto, where I also went to school.

My main focus over the years has become women’s health issues (such as prenatal and postnatal chiropractic care) and pediatric chiropractic care.  Since I am dealing with young to middle age women and new moms. I tend to see many who are in jobs or professions that involve sitting, computer usage, repetitive strain injuries, and postural strain.

I have done consultation work with banks, service, and the hospitality industry (hotels and restaurants), and the dental profession (hygienists and dentists) to assist their employees in reducing the amount of injury and time off work. Decreasing WCB claims is an employer’s main focus as well as increasing and maintaining productivity in the work place. Back strains account for more than 20% of all Work SafeBC claims.

Musculoskeletal conditions cost Canada $16.4 billion in direct treatment costs and lost productivity each year.

Poor Ergonomics:

Some professions have a variety or ergonomic risk factors

1)      repetition of wrist and arm movements

2)      restricted hand movements

3)      forceful exertion

4)      uncomfortable body postures held for long periods of time

5)      vibrations transmitted by  hand pieces or mechanical scalers.

Time spent at work station without breaks

Between work, web surfing, driving, watching TV, you probably spend most of your day sitting which is murder on your neck and back.

A landmark Swedish study sitting upright already increases the force on the spine by 140% compared with standing. If you slouch or slump that number rises to 185%

Breaks are needed every 45 to 60 minutes to prevent strain. Get up to stretch every hour.

At Vancouver Chiropractic, we believe that posture and the spine go hand in hand. By improving your spinal mobility and function through chiropractic adjustments and stretching. You will become more aware of your posture and its improvement as well.
