Many of my new mom patients in my Vancouver Chiropractic practice ask me if their new-born would benefit from a spinal check-up (the birth was very difficult).
As many of us who have had children are aware, the labour and delivery process can sometimes be tough on the mother and baby physically. That is not even considering additional stressors like vacuum, forceps, or C-sections. If the birth was especially long or difficult, there may be more of an impact on the child’s delicate spine and soft tissues. Many forms of birth trauma are evident within the first 24-48 hours after birth. Yet, the more subtle effects of the trauma can go undetected or untreated for months or years.
We now know that the sooner to birth the spine is checked, the less risk of long term physical developmental problems.
Kids and Chiropractic
Chiropractors consistently see evidence that spinal adjustments of infants, toddlers, and pre-teens result in positive effects upon their spinal function and growth. Their spines may benefit from spinal check-ups during key stages of development.
